Dear Ralph: Should I leave school because my father is late

Hello Ralph,
       How is the blog doing and your health. I wanted to share something with you and get your advice. My dad recently passed away and things haven't been easy on my family. Due to the way things are in our society my mum has found it hard finding any job. She has been a house wife and has no work experience. The little savings my dad was able to make has done the much it can for us so far and has been almost depleted. We now try to borrow money from friends and family to fund our education. I am presently in my 200 level in school but I was recently told by someone I met through a friend to come and work for him. The job is in Warri and I school in LASU.
 As you can see due to distance I have been forced to make a decision. It is either I continue with my schooling and hope that we keep seeing money by luck or I leave school and go hustle for the money. I have three younger siblings that still have a long way to go, I am the first child and that is why I am confused on what to do. Without a certificate I might get stuck in that company and never make any real progress or even get sacked. At the same time if I stay in school there might be no money to complete the education. I am really confused and if I do not make my decision fast I will miss out on the job opportunity. Please I need your advice. Thank you Ralph

        My health is getting better. I am really sorry to hear about your dad. Take heart my brother, he is in a better place now. I believe there are different ways you can go about this. First of all, if you do have someone who is willing to take you all(you and your siblings) through school already then I think it's best you finish up with school using the persons aid before going into the labor market. Grab your certificate for a higher chance at securing a good job, this doesn't mean you can't secure a job without one. I know that it seems these days that your certificate doesn't matter but just to be on the safe side, if possible you should stick to school. I don't know how much the job you have been offered pays and how close you are with this man but if there is a possibility of him employing someone else for now and leaving the invitation open for you till you finish school then that will be great. You can bring this idea up with him just in case you haven't thought of it and know what he thinks.This is all if there is someone that can take care of you and your siblings through school without any problem or demanding something ridiculous from you people.

If there isn't anybody you can rely on then I think it's best you leave the schooling for now. You can try and tell the school about what you are going through. There are schools that would simply move your file aside until whenever you are ready to come back and it still wouldn't affect your G.P regardless of how long you go away. Just make sure to confirm with your school first before making that decision. I guess since you are the first born it is only natural to think about your younger ones first. So just do this for them. You can go back to school later if it is still possible. If not you can continue with your job if you are okay with it. There are people out there doing okay without a certificate but know that it still requires a lot from you.

The struggle isn't going to be easy but you can definitely do it. Just sit down and analyze what I have advised you to do. Decide on the one that works best for your situation and try it out. It might not be easy but you are going to be fine. Nothing is ever easy. Do not even stop for a minute to look on yourself with self pity. Keep moving forward and doing what you know you have to do. Everything is going to eventually work out. Do not forget your morals and up bringing while you are out there. It's going to be so hard some days but never loose yourself. Keep up the hustle and do your dad and rest of your family proud. You can do this. Welcome to the family.
