Disconnect from the gadgets

"These little gadgets and devices are slowly stealing the time you both should be spending in getting to know each other"

I overheard that line above from the table adjacent to mine yesterday evening as I was out enjoying my cold bottle of guess what....Yeap, you guessed right, beer! hehehe, anyways

 Read on....

This young couple had been seated for more than the two hours it took me to notice them, they were obviously together as their seats were drawn closer to each others than the rest of the crowd's and I noticed a hand bag on the gentleman's lap that matched the exact shade of blue that the ladies jeans and head accessories were. The lady had on her lap an iPad and on the man's left open palm lay an android phone which he operated with he's right index finger. They were both totally absent minded to what was happening around them. One of the fellows that sat with them, another young, tall and broad shouldered man with a rather large chain around he's neck and a mischievous look on he's face noticed how captured they were by whatever they where doing with their little toys, he signaled to everybody on the table with a hand gesture to be quiet then slowly pointed them out to the rest of the table in a succeeded attempt not to alert the two inattentive people, he turned and stared at them silently with he's hand under he's chin  and everybody on the table did the same. The couple didn't notice when the noise on the table died down and that every other person had their gaze fixed on them.
The man's gaze on he's phone got even more serious and the rather mischievous fellow that had alerted everybody to their absent mindedness earlier, slowly leaned towards he's preoccupied friend and raised he's right arm with palms wide spread behind the man's head, but he was still too busy with what he was doing to notice what was about to happen. The rest of the people on the table where fighting back their laughter in order not to ruin the joke, the friend brought down  he's hand on the man and it came as a playful push on the head, he quickly looked behind him in anger searching for who hit him then realized what just happened and turned to meet he's friends ever smiling but mischievous face, the rest of the crowd erupted into a loud rumbling laughter, the lady jumped slightly in her chair from the shock of the sudden laughter and looked around with her eyes wide open and you could see that she was inaudibly inquiring what had happened.
The young man that had orchestrated the whole thing turned and said to her "Ada baby, so couples don't talk to each other anymore, you two are busy pressing phone" she giggled in embarrassment from the truth and before she could defend herself, her friend across her said in a more serious tone "These little gadgets and devices are slowly stealing the time you both should be spending in getting to know each other better"
The man looked at her in embarrassment, obviously feeling equally guilty of neglecting her and paying all the attention to he's phone. He smiled at her and took her hand in he's, pulled it close to himself then dropped it on he's lap in an attempt to ease her discomfort. But then a while later I noticed that the contact had been broken again, the man alone this time was back at it with he's phone again when the talk on the table seemed to have gotten a little boring for him, this time the lady didn't need any laughter to wake her up, she sat uncomfortably at the edge of her seat and stared at him and you could tell from her eyes and the slight movement of her lips that she didn't have anything to say to him but not from the lack of wanting to, she just didn't know what to say to him. And the few times she managed to find something to say he answered either with a nod, a single word or slowly had to yank he's head away from he's device and stare at her for some time before recollecting the question he was asked earlier and then answering. She wasn't having a very good time and she was doing a poor job at concealing it with the fake smiles and the over stretched laughter that lasted a little longer than others own when the slightest joke was told. About an hour or more passed with the lady still trying her luck at different topics and questions to strike up a conversation and be saved of the embarrassment she was feeling but with no better result. The man's second cell phone rang, he got up and left to answer the call only to return a few minutes later, stretching he's back he said to he's friends that it was late and that they needed to go home. On the mention of the word "home" the lady quickly stood up and even quicker, said her goodbyes to everybody, snatched her bag from the table with a rather unusual strength and speed then stomped off towards the exit obviously in anger.
The man looked at her and looked back at he's friend who had pointed out their lack of interest in each other earlier, he laughed and made a fist, then with he's thumb pointing  out of the fist, he traced a line from the left of he's neck down to the right signifying that she was going to kill him. The man looked at he's phone and and sighed, as if blaming the device for putting him in the trouble he knew he had gotten himself into. He quickly tucked it away into he's right jean pocket and finally made he's way towards the exit.
