We all start out small

 

   I saw a picture of don jazzy as a drummer back in the days when he was in a cultural group and it really got me thinking. Today he is one of the best if not the best beat producer in the Nigerian music industry. What does that tell you? Patience! Time! Yes!....it takes time and consistency.  We are mostly looking for the fast lane to success. I know that I get impatient once in a while on my own personal journey. We have to learn to be patient and realize that things start off gradually and build. Like it is said "patience isn't about waiting, it's about maintaining the right attitude while waiting". So in order to do this you have to be able to understand that nothing that is great and long lasting today kicked off the moment it was started.





From buildings to individual successes to the natural human life cycle, we all start out small then grow. If you look back through time, you would discover that every single thing that has maintained it's strength. Everything that has stood the test of time and is still standing successfully started from somewhere and started small. It all took time to be built and perfected and that is the reason why it is able to stand. No loose ends where left, everything was considered and nothing was missed out and that takes time.

Take a building for example, if you rush to erect a building as fast as possible. You might succeed to erect it and it would stand but it's lifespan would be limited. You wouldn't be able to compare it with one that you took your time to consider everything about. It would only be a matter of time before you start noticing errors and miscalculations every here and there. You just have to start out and consider every detail right form the foundation and you can't skip the foundation to get to the roofing. It is just the same thing with the success in life. If you have a plan that you want to execute and achieve success. You need to take your time and consider all the possible mistakes. You need to look at it over and over again and prepare for any challenges that might come your way then start out and move gradually but steadily. Believe me, if you put in your sweat and hard work to it and you take things gradually, you would last and your success would remain strong.

I know most of you plan on making it big in whatever field you have chosen. You don't want a half baked achievement, believe me. Think of the past big names in your area of interest and you would see that they all had to walk a long road before making it. Let's look at the music industry. Everybody from our local artists like Donjazzy, 2face, ice prince   and the rest to the foreign artists like M.J, Akon, Jayz and many more musical legends out there. They all came up from somewhere, they all started from somewhere to struggle and grind. They had to be patient and wait for their big break while building slowly.

Now I know that some of these artists might not be making much wave right now but the fact still stands that any day you pick up the songs they put their all into, you would still enjoy listening to them. These songs don't just fade from our memories so easily and even when they finally do, anyday you slot their disk to your players and listen again, you'll definitely enjoy it. These people all started somewhere. From Duncan mighty singing the Chorus of  N.i.g.g.a RAW's song "unu ga egbu mmadu" to Akon singing the chorus of Rasheeda's "Make it hot", down to wizkid singing the chorus of M.I's "Fast money, Fast Cars". Every single name out there had to start from somewhere.

So be patient and take your time to grow in whatever you do. It wouldn't be easy but if you do it right, it would be embedded in history forever. Do it all from the heart and soul and you would never regret it.
