Arguments: Who speaks to who first

This came up in a discussion while i was out with friends yesterday,the question was "after a fight who should speak to who first". Now there has been this tradition that in a relationship that the woman must apologize first, while some others believe in the more western idea of the man dropping he's sword first in a fight

I personally believe that its no one particular persons responsibility to make things right. It take two to make a relationship so each party should put in effort to make things right. of course there is the occasional case of one person always breaking that silence, well in that case communication is key. Learn to talk to your partner, he/she might not even realize what they are doing, it could be a subconscious reaction to such situations, let them know how you feel about it and always be polite when speaking. You know your partner best find the best choice of words to approach them and appeal to their inner calm and listen to understand not to speak back, cos you might just start up another fight. What are your thoughts...
